My week in Switzerland continues. . . On Tuesday Jill and TJ took me on a tour of Bern.
We started off by walking to a nearby park and gardens Rosengarten ("Rose Garden").
View of Bern from Rosengarten
Bern means bear and there are bear pits in Bern.
This is the view from above of Finn (the male) in the bear pits
View of bear pits from the bridge (opposite the view above)
The dad is on the left side and the mom (Bjork) and cubs (born in December) are on the right side, but they were not out that day. They are separated because the dads tend to eat the cubs. :(
The Munster Cathedral
Main entrance to the Munster depicting the Last Judgement
There are a lot of statues/fountains throughout Bern.
This is the most disturbing - a baby-eating ogre.
Bear statue with Zytglogge (clock tower) in background
People crowd around the Zytglogge every hour to watch it strike. There is a whole process - a rooster crows, a man turns over an hour glass, a jester dances and rings bells, bears parade, and the bell-striker at the top strikes the bell.
Parliament building (Bern is the capital of Switzerland) with market stands in front
Within all those stands is a great Mexican stand where we got the best tortas for lunch.
Funicular ride to the Gurten ("house mountain")
Two funiculars move up and down steep slopes on a cable counterbalancing each other.
This picture is where they are passing each other in the middle.
The Gurten has playgrounds, grassy areas, trails, a frisbee golf course, ski jumps, and beautiful views

We ended the day by having yummy cheese fondue at the apartment.
Sorry, no pictures. Too busy eating.
